E-Kick scooter Registration process for Transport Malta

How to register an E-Kick Scooter in Malta.

As of 2020 it is now necessary to register and insure an electric kick scooter in Malta in order to use it on Maltese roads and pedestrian areas.
The Transport Malta authority has published guidelines as well as recommendations for the use of e-kick scooters in Malta.

For an E-kick scooter to be used on the road, it must not exceed 20 km/h, if your scooter exceeds 20 km/h then you need to make sure it can be modified.

Most Xiaomi and Segway kick scooter models such as, M365, pro, 1S, Essential, ES1, ES2 etc can have their speed modified however some imitation scooter models do not allow for this.

What do I need to register my E scooter with Transport Malta?

Proof of payment for the purchase of your scooter in the form of a receipt
A document stating the top speed of your kick scooter ‘we can provide this’
Insurance policy
Transport Malta registration forms
Valid Driving license or a passed theory test

Engineer certificate confirming speed reduction

We offer a speed alteration service for kick scooters, we then issue a document certifying that the said E-lick scooter does not exceed 20 km/h. This document is required by Transport Malta for the scooter to be registered.
